Friends of Farm Workers, Inc

Philadelphia, PA

Friends of Farmworkers is a statewide legal services program which was formed in 1975 to provide assistance to poor migrant and seasonal farm workers. The organization has provided representation to thousands of individual farm workers and mushroom workers in Pennsylvania and has affected thousands more through class actions by provisions for injunctive and declaratory relief.

The current purpose of the organization is to improve the living and working conditions of indigent or distressed workers, including farm workers, mushroom workers, landscaping and food processing workers, and workers from immigrant and migrant communities.

The principal focus of the work of the organization is on the employment related claims of low-wage workers. This includes claims for unpaid wages on behalf of workers regardless of immigration status.

Students with strong Spanish language skills and demonstrated interest in low-income communities are encouraged to apply. The Peggy Browning Fund Fellow will assist on individual cases that include a great deal of client contact. There will be exposure to public advocacy and client education.

The total ten-week stipend for this fellowship will be $4,500.
