Meyer, Suozzi, English & Klein, P.C.

New York, NY

Meyer, Suozzi, English & Klein, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in September, 2010, represents local and international unions and fringe benefit funds. Lawyers in our labor department have been involved in the Eastern Strike, the Daily News strike, the UPS strike, the New York City Greengrocer organizing drive, industry-wide health care negotiations, negotiations and litigations with charter schools, public sector furlough litigation, and other significant matters. One of our partners was the lead lobbyist for the recently passed New York State domestic worker rights legislation.

In our litigation practice, we represent our clients in federal and state courts, and before the NLRB, New York State PERB, the New York City Office of Collective Bargaining, and arbitrators. We help our clients prepare for and engage in collective bargaining in industries as diverse as trucking, health care, higher education, retail, student transportation, and publishing. In addition, we represent individual employees with claims under Title VII, the ADA, the ADEA, and state anti-discrimination laws.

Law clerks typically spend their ten-week summer doing research and writing assignments. In addition, we do our best to insure that our law clerks get out of the office. During the past two summers, law clerks have drafted papers, wrote sections of briefs, analyzed issues relating to appellate practice and ADEA claims, attended oral argument at the Second Circuit, attended bankruptcy court hearings in the Chrysler bankruptcy, attended depositions, attended mediations, and attended arbitration proceedings.

We are looking for smart, hard working first and second year law students with an interest in the labor movement. We welcome applications from students of color and students with labor union backgrounds.

The stipend for this fellowship will be $850/week.

In addition to the basic application requirements (cover letter, application form, esays, resume), applicants for this fellowship must also include a transcript (when available). Address cover letter to:
