Schwarzwald McNair & Fusco LLP is a full service union-side labor law firm representing local and international unions, union officers, ERISA governed health and welfare plans and pension plans, VEBAs, and the trustees of such plans, all in a wide variety of fields. The firm serves as general counsel to the Office & Professional Employees International Union, serves as local counsel to many international unions, and represents many Ohio-based local unions, including the United Food & Commercial Workers, United Steelworkers, Iron Workers, Service Employees International Union affiliates, chapters of the American Association of University Professors, musicians unions (both locally and nationally), Glass Molders Pottery Plastics & Allied Workers, locals in the television industry, the local Federation of Labor, and United Labor Agency.
As a general services union-side labor firm, we appear before the National Labor Relations Board (litigating unfaiar labor practices principally against employers, and representation cases), the State Employment Relations Board (same), National Mediation Board (litigating representation cases under the Railway Labor Act), federal courts (principally litigating LMRA, LMRDA, RLA, ERISA and bankruptcy issues), state courts (principally litigating strike related activities, enforcement of arbitration awards, and unemployment compensation awards). In addition, the firm addresses legal issues regarding Title VII, ADA, FMLA and other worker rights issues in a variety of forums, and has a substantial practice negotiating and administering collective bargaining agreements for many of our clients.
A Peggy Browning Fellow will do research, draft legal memoranda, assist in preparing court pleadings, attend client related meetings and may attend court hearings, trials, arbitrations or negotiations. Any applicant must have a fundamental commitment to serving unions and workers and should have taken a basic labor law course, or have other experience regarding labor law.
This fellowship will pay $750 per week. Free housing will be provided if the Fellow is from out of the area.
In addition to the basic application requirements (cover letter, application form, essays, resume), applicants for this fellowship must also include a brief legal writing sample.
