The Division of Judges, National Labor Relations Board, employs approximately 55 judges located throughout the United States, including Washington, D.C. Judges hear unfair labor practice cases against employers and unions, as well as some cases involving the Merit Systems Protection Board. These cases are tried all over the country, and the law clerk's primary job is to assist the judge post-trial in researching and writing the decision issued in each case.

The law clerk will work one-on-one with Washington-based judges and will also have an opportunity to learn about, and observe, such NLRB functions as conducting representation elections and U.S. Court of Appeals oral arguments of Board cases. Also, when feasible, the law clerk will attend a local trial and follow that case through to its conclusion with a written decision.
