Peggy Browning Virtual Awards Program - New York 2020
Alumni We educate law students about the rights and needs of work- ers. We aim to develop thoughtful and passionate labor advo- cates. Since 1997, we have placed law students in 1,137 Peggy Browning Fellowships. We’re proud to say that, not counting students still in law school, 41% of our alumni are working in the labor movement and 25% support social justice in various public interest jobs. Another 4% have recently graduated and haven’t let us know yet where they are working. We’ve lost track of many others but are always looking for them. We can’t list them all, but here are a few examples. Many are with worker centers, community legal services, immigrant rights organizations, and other public interest orga- nizations throughout the country, including these in New York: Greg Baltz – Staff Attorney, TakeRoot Justice; Sayra Gordillo - Staff Attorney, The Legal Aid Society; Omer Khwaja – NY Campaign Director, Jobs to Move America; Sochie Nnaemeka - Director of Emerging Organizing, Center for Popular Democracy; Jeffrey Olshansky - Senior Staff Attorney, Community Development Project of the Urban Justice Center; Marisol Silva - Immigrant Justice Corps Fellow, Safe Horizon; Randal Wilhite – Special Litigation Fellow, New York Legal Assistance Group; Luna Yasui – Senior Program Officer of Civic Engagement and Government, Ford Foundation.
