UNITEHERE Local 100 is seeing an in-house attorney to work in the front lines of labor law as an attorney with 17,000 member Local Union of food service workers employed in cafeterias, stadiums, arenas, airports, restaurants and country clubs in New York and North New Jersey. Responsibilities include investigating, preparing and arguing labor arbitration cases, assisting in union contract negotiations, providing legal support to workers involved in organizing campaigns, asserting workers First Amendment rights to authorities before and during rallies, marches, picket lines and strikes, presenting Unfair Labor practice cases, and training union staff and members on local, state and federal laws affecting workers and their jobs. The in-house attorney will coordinate daily with experienced union staff, shop stewards and committee members on all these areas and regularly with outside counsel, and will be expected to function independently after a short orientation period. Requirements include admission to the New York bar within six months of starting employment and experience or coursework in labor and/or employment law. Ability to speak Spanish is helpful but not necessary. Salary depends on experience, plus generous vacation and personal days policies, a defined benefit pension and family medical insurance with no co-premium. Local 100 will pay for required continuing education work, and other appropriate professional training, while providing constant on the job training through your hands on time with workers and 30 member union staff as well as local and national labor counsel.
