Teamsters Local 959, one of Alaska’s largest unions, seeks a General Counsel for its Anchorage office. Local 959 represents over 5,000 men and women in a wide range of industries including construction, transportation, warehouse, clerical, nursing, telecommunications and railroad. The General Counsel works closely with our business representatives and reports to the Secretary-Treasurer.

Responsibilities include:

• Advising the Secretary-Treasurer and the Executive Board on union governance matters.
• Conducting training for business representatives and shop stewards.
• Counseling business representatives on contract negotiations, contract interpretation and grievance matters.
• Conducting union elections.
• Representing the union at grievance arbitration and in court proceedings.

We are looking for an attorney with a minimum of five (5) years’ experience and a demonstrated
commitment to the labor movement and working people.
