Associate Counsel

Amalgamated Transit Union

The Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) has an immediate opening for an attorney in their Silver Spring office.  The International Union is ramping up its campaigns to organize strategically, bargain in increasingly difficult times, fight privatization, and build alliances with bus riders and community groups to preserve and expand public transit systems. The Associate Counsel will provide advice and assist in strategic planning related to collective bargaining, organizing, privatization and mitigating the effects of contractor turnover on ATU properties; will advise International and Local Union officers on internal union administration, traditional labor law, employment standards laws, and pension and 401(k) matters; and will also assist in developing a program to track, influence and respond to regulatory actions impacting transit employees. The applicant must have two (2) to five (5) years of experience in labor law, and must have a demonstrated commitment to the labor movement. Litigation experience before the NLRB, state labor relations boards, state and federal courts, and arbitrators is strongly preferred. Public policy, strategic campaigning and organizing experience will be considered also. The applicant should have excellent research, writing and analytical skills, be able to multi-task and manage multiple projects, be capable of handling assignments with minimal supervision, and work well in a collegial setting with other attorneys and staff. Salary is competitive and includes a full benefits package. Please e-mail cover letter, resume, and two short writing samples to the Vaughn Dykes, This email address is being protected from spambots.
