Associate General Counsel

AFSCME is looking for a full-time Associate General Counsel with three (3) to ten (10) years of legal experience for the Office of the General Counsel in Washington, DC. The position provides legal representation to the officers and staff of the International Union and AFSCME councils and locals throughout the United States. Emphasis is directed at legal issues involving organizing. Candidates who have a combination of education and experience with labor relations issues in the public and private sector, litigation in state and federal courts and administrative agencies, internal union, union security, and organizing issues will be considered. Skills required include an ability to interpret laws, rulings and regulations; prepare legal briefs and memoranda; develop strategy and arguments; provide advice to clients; and coordinate complex and national matters affecting AFSCME. Proficiency in Spanish strongly preferred. Extensive travel and extended work hours may be required.
