The National Air Traffic Controllers Association, AFL-CIO (“NATCA”), the labor union representing federal-sector and private-sector air traffic controllers and other aviation safety professionals, has an immediate opening for a Director of Labor Relations in its Washington, D.C. headquarters office. The Director of Labor Relations is responsible for: (1) leading the Labor Relations Department in the representation of NATCA and its members; (2) providing verbal and written guidance to NATCA’s officers, union representatives, and general membership concerning application of the NATCA collective bargaining agreements, the Federal Service Labor-Management Relations Statute, the National Labor Relations Act, and other state and federal laws; (3) representing NATCA in midterm and term negotiations with the Federal Aviation Administration and private-sector employers; (4) representing NATCA in arbitration hearings, mediation, and before the Federal Labor Relations Authority/National Labor Relations Board; (5) collaborating with federal agency representatives and internal teams; (6) overseeing NATCA training functions and administering NATCA Academy courses; and (7) managing departmental staff and conducting training on a variety of labor-management relationship topics. Qualified applicants should be graduates of an ABA-accredited law school who have extensive knowledge of and experience with all aspects of labor management relations in the federal and private sectors, and substantial experience in representing labor organizations and union members in arbitrations and administrative forums. Applicants should have prior experience negotiating collective bargaining agreements and/or leading mid-term bargaining. Applicants should have experience managing staff, be well organized, possess excellent legal research and writing skills, be capable of handling many complex assignments with minimal supervision, feel comfortable interacting with various groups of people, have the ability to meet tight deadlines, and have a demonstrated commitment to the labor movement. Admission to the District of Columbia bar is preferred and, if not already obtained, will be required within one year of the date of hire.
