Previant Law Firm, S.C.

Milwaukee, WI

This is the 2024 fellowship description for this mentor organization.

The Previant Law Firm, S.C. was founded in 1912 by labor law attorney Joseph Padway, a pioneer in the field of labor law.  Attorney Padway played a significant role in the development of many of Wisconsin's major labor laws and was general counsel for the American Federation of Labor.  Following in the footsteps of Mr. Padway, our team of labor law attorneys continues to represent large and small labor unions in Wisconsin, Iowa, Michigan, Illinois, and around the nation.  Over the years, we have fought and won victories on behalf of working people at every judicial level.  At The Previant Law Firm, S.C., we look forward to many more years of service to the working people of Wisconsin and the nation.

The Peggy Browning Fellow will be working with attorneys who dedicate their practice to fighting for unions and workers' rights, in a region of the country where unions are still prevalent, but are being challenged by state and local governments and businesses.  We believe that experiences in this challenging legal environment will be highly beneficial for a future workplace justice advocate and instructive in attempting to navigate the legal issues associated with the most recent attacks on labor and the need to adapt in the changing labor climate. The Peggy Browning Fellow will perform research and writing for federal court litigation as well as arbitration and agency proceedings on a variety of issues under the direction of the Firm's attorneys.  The Fellow will gain exposure to a wide range of legal issues in the fields of labor law, wage and hour law, and employment discrimination law.  Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to workers' rights and the labor movement. Excellent research and writing skills and strong oral advocacy skills are essential. Related experience in labor and/or employment law is preferred. The Fellow will have the opportunity to network at events sponsored by the Firm, clients, and the Labor and Employment Law Section of the WI State Bar.

In addition to the basic application requirements (cover letter, application form, essays, resume), applicants for this fellowship must also include a legal writing sample.

Please see our website for more information on the Firm https://previant.com. The Fellowship is in-person, in our offices in downtown Milwaukee, WI. The total ten-week stipend for this fellowship will be $7,000.
