Cohen, Weiss & Simon LLP (Summer 2027)

New York, NY

This is the summer 2027 fellowship description for this mentor organization.

Cohen, Weiss and Simon LLP, located in New York City, is a full service union-side labor, employee benefits, and employment law firm. The firm represents national, regional, and local labor unions, pension, health and other benefit plans, and the interests of employees in a wide variety of matters. In addition to our robust labor and employee benefits practices, CWS has several other major practice areas, including sexual harassment prevention, bankruptcy, wage and hour, and employment law. We are a firm committed to the labor movement, composed of lawyers who have devoted their careers to advancing and protecting labor and workers’ rights.

Fellows will play an important role in the firm, tackling critical research and writing projects that attorneys rely on in their practice. Fellows will also be asked to draft memos, briefs, and/or letters. Each summer we ensure that our Fellows have ample contact with the attorneys at the firm - associates, of counsel, and partners - and have an opportunity to observe a deposition, argument, arbitration and attend client and trustees meetings to gain experience with various types of proceedings.

Applicants must have strong research and writing skills and a commitment to workers’ rights. Coursework in labor law and/or employee benefits law is preferred. Union, employee benefits, journal and/or moot court experience is a plus. Compensation is $1,500 per week.

Cohen, Weiss and Simon LLP is an equal opportunity employer, committed to diversity in the work place, and applicants from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Please note in your application if you were referred through the ULA DOOR program.

In addition to the basic application requirements (cover letter, application form, essays, resume), applicants for this fellowship must also include a legal writing sample and transcript.  Please indicate the extent to which, if at all, the writing sample has been edited by others.
