Communications Workers of America (Summer 2026)
Washington, DC
This is the summer 2026 fellowship description for this mentor organization.
The Communications Workers of America (CWA) is an international labor union representing workers across various industries, including telecommunications, airlines, news media, manufacturing, and public service. As a strong advocate for all workers, CWA defends their rights to have control over their workplaces and their lives. The CWA Legal Department, located at the union’s headquarters in Washington, D.C., is currently seeking fellows who possess strong research and writing skills, along with a passion for defending workers’ rights.
A Peggy Browning Fund Fellow at the CWA Legal Department in Washington, D.C., typically works 40 hours per week. The fellowship primarily involves handling labor and employment law issues, although it may also cover other topics that arise within a large nonprofit organization. Fellows have the opportunity to collaborate with any of the six attorneys at headquarters in the D.C., office on tasks such as preparing for arbitration, drafting briefs during litigation, and writing memos on specific legal questions. Past fellows have expressed appreciation for the department’s warm, collegial atmosphere.
The position offers a pay rate of $26 per hour. Preference is given to rising 2L candidates who will have taken labor law courses prior to the fellowship starting and/or have experience working with labor unions. Demonstrated interest and commitment to the labor movement is an essential qualification.
At CWA, we believe that organizing for bargaining power strengthens communities by equipping workers with the tools to eliminate systemic barriers to fair and just treatment. CWA strives to create a society where people of all races, cultures, religions, sexual orientations, genders, gender identities, disabilities, ages, and nationalities feel welcomed, respected, and heard. We strongly encourage applications from a diverse pool of candidates, especially those from historically marginalized communities.
To apply for this position, please submit a cover letter, resume, legal writing sample, three references, and a law school transcript through PBF’s application form below.
Applications for the 2026 Peggy Browning Fellowship Program will be accepted starting Monday, June 2, 2025. Interviews will be done on a rolling basis, with offers to be made in early August. It is highly recommended that you apply as early as possible.
