WRR was founded on the principle that working people are entitled to the best of legal representation in an economy and social system that was not designed with them in mind. The firm sees itself as a part of the labor movement, along with the labor unions and working people whom it represents. The original founders of the firm were once part of a larger firm that was headquartered in Southern California. In 1974, the firm took over the Northern California practice with its principal office in San Francisco and satellite offices in Oakland and San Jose. Before long the firm established itself in Los Angeles, Sacramento and Honolulu, Hawaii. The firm later established an office in Las Vegas, Nevada. The firm has been true to its origins. All of its original members had trade union and working class backgrounds. When it hired new lawyers, it sought to assure that they not only had solid academic credentials, but that they shared the firm’s commitment to social, economic and racial justice. Today the firm is one of the largest labor and employment law firms in the United States. Since its founding its attorneys have represented labor unions and their members in both the public and private sectors and have developed expertise necessary to protect Labor’s rights to good health and a dignified retirement. At WRR, we value diversity among our employees because we represent labor unions and their diverse members in both the public and private sectors. The firm has offices in Emeryville, Los Angeles, Sacramento and San Diego, California, and Las Vegas, Nevada. Clients include international, state-level, and local unions representing virtually every unionized sector.

Our summer clerk positions are open to law students with a demonstrated commitment to workers' rights and the labor movement. Our clerks are assigned a variety of legal research and writing projects addressing both “traditional” labor and benefit plan issues and emerging practice areas. In addition, our clerks accompany attorneys into the field to meet clients, observe arbitrations and hearings, and participate in our in-house education program. Our summer 2026 clerks will be paid $38 an hour and will be based out of our Emeryville, Los Angeles, and Sacramento, California offices. Interested applicants should provide a cover letter, resume and writing sample. People of color, women, veterans, LGBTQ+ candidates, and candidates with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply. We seek a candidate who intends to practice law in California.

WRR offers summer clerks in-service training opportunities, the ability to shadow attorneys at hearings, mediations, trust fund meetings, client meetings, client trainings, webinars and much more. We are open to the Peggy Browning Fellowship summer clerk participating in Peggy Browning Fellow events and the AFL-CIO's DOOR conference.
