staff and education support professionals in public schools, colleges and universities across Massachusetts. We advocate for quality public education for all, and the rights and working conditions of the educators who make that possible. A Peggy Browning Fellow in the MTA
Legal Division will assist MTA staff attorneys in their work supporting our educators in various aspects of their employment relationship and in matters pertaining to their licensure and retirement. The Fellow will also assist MTA staff attorneys in their work representing local associations in arbitrations, prohibited practice charges and related matters that can present the opportunity to observe deep organizing and collective action.
Key Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of MTA staff attorneys, the Peggy Browning Fellow may:
• Conduct legal research and draft legal memoranda
• Assist in preparing briefs, motions, and other legal filings
• Assist in preparing trainings
• Attend MTA sponsored events and trainings
• Help review and analyze contracts, policies, and proposed legislation or regulations
• Support attorneys in case preparation and attend related hearings
• Perform other related legal tasks as assigned
Salary will be a minimum of $7000.00 total for 10 weeks of full-time work. Payment will be made consistent with the rules of the Peggy Browning Fund and applicable laws. Start and end dates are negotiable but would typically run from June through August.
