CASA

Washington DC area (Langley Park, MD), DC

This is the 2026 fellowship description for this mentor organization.

The CASA legal program offers unique experiences in movement lawyering–the practice of law in combination with community organizing. A Peggy Browning Fellow will participate in the development and implementation of creative strategies to combat the many injustices low income and working-class immigrants face in Maryland and in the Washington metro region.

With over 173,000 lifetime members across 46 US states, CASA is a national powerhouse organization building power and improving the quality of life in working-class: Black, Latino/a/e, Afro-descendent, Indigenous, and Immigrant communities. CASA creates change with its powerbuilding model blending human services, community organizing, and advocacy in order to serve the full spectrum of the needs, dreams, and aspirations of members.

CASA legal staff advocate for the rights of workers, including by representing individual workers to recover unpaid wages.  This work also involves educating CASA members about their rights under the law and working on legislative efforts to increase worker protections.  CASA legal staff also participate in national campaigns for improving conditions for immigrant workers.

A Peggy Browning Fellow at CASA will be on the front line in defending immigrant workers against abuse by employers. This is an excellent opportunity to work in partnership with the community, learn legal skills, and collaborate with a dynamic group of lawyers, organizers, and social service staff in a friendly, fast-paced, multilingual office setting.  The ideal candidate will have experience in social justice issues and a passion for using legal tools to support the efforts of low income and working-class immigrants who are fighting to gain power over the issues that affect them.
