LIUNA Mid-Atlantic Regional Organizing Coalition

Washington DC area (Reston), VA

This is the 2021 fellowship description for thie mentor organization.

LIUNA MAROC is the organizing arm of the Laborers' International Union of North America (LIUNA) in the states of Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia, aryland, North Carolina, and Washington, DC.  Our mission is to increase membership through organizing.

The fellowship program with LIUNA MAROC will provide a law student with exposure to union-side labor law with a heavy emphasis on the tactics and practice of unioin organizing. Law students can expect to assist in the day-to-day activities of the MAROC legal staff, conducting research and writing on a wide range of labor and employment law topics. With luck and good timing, students might be able to assist with arbitrations and hearings before the NLRB as well.

The stipend for this fellowship will be $20/hour for 40 hours/week. MAROC generally hosts fellows for in-person work at our headquarters in Reston, Virginia (a suburb of Washington DC near Dulles Airport). Remote work options for summer 2021 fellows will be determined at a later time.

LIUNA MAROC is accepting applications from law students with a strong interest in labor relations and employment law for a full-time paid Peggy Browning summer fellowship. Excellent research and writing skills a must.

In addition to the basic application requirements (cover letter, application form, essays, resume), applicants for this fellowship must also include a legal writing sample and transcript (when available).
