Solidarity Law

Cumberland Foreside, ME

This is the 2023 fellowship description for this mentor organization. This fellowship position has been filled.

Solidarity Law is a labor and employment law firm dedicated to representing workers in northern New England. The firm represents most of organized labor in Maine, including low-income hospitality workers (Chipotle United was the first Chipotle in the country to organize); blue collar factory workers; building trades workers; professional employees; and public sector workers. In addition, Solidarity Law has an active civil rights practice (Jeff is a board member of the National Employment Lawyers Organization) representing victims of discrimination and wage theft in individual cases and class actions. We also have an active legislative practice (although the Maine legislature normally adjourns at the end of June).

Applicants should have taken labor law and/or employment discrimination or had relevant work experience, such as a labor organizer. Work may include legal research, writing, and representation in labor arbitrations and hearings in state and federal court and before administrative agencies such as the National and Maine Labor Relations Boards, the Maine Human Rights Commissions; client intake; participation in mediations; and case analysis. The position is remote.

The total ten-week stipend for this fellowship will be $7,000, and fellows should expect to work 40-hours per week.
