Alumni Association Launches First Chapter!

Thursday, March 17th, 2016

On March 3rd, twenty Peggy Browning Alumni from the greater New York City area met in Manhattan to network and establish the first official Alumni Association chapter. There was a fantastic energy throughout the room from our alumni wanting to build relationships in hopes of advancing the rights of working people.

Volunteering to be co-coordinators of the new chapter were Dan Flaherty, PBF’09, Wendy LaManque, PBF’12 and Lauren McGlothlin, PBF’13.  It was agreed that the chapter will focus on 3 areas:

  • Building a network of attorneys across the NYC region to act as a legal community where alumni can share information and respond to questions on current labor and employment law topics;
  • Coordinating social events for professional development, such as lectures and workshops, and sharing information on area events that advance the rights of working people;
  • Connecting alumni with each new class of Peggy Browning Fellows through participation in Fellow Orientations, Nat’l Conference Workshops, Regional Workshop Panels and at Alumni Association gatherings.

Currently, 4 events are scheduled:

Professional Development
March 24-25   NYU Review of Law and Social Change2016 Symposium
May 10-12       AFL-CIO Lawyers Coordinating Committee Conference in Chicago

Social Events
April 6             Peggy Browning Awards Reception, Sheraton NY Times Square Hotel
June/July       2016 New York Fellows Gathering – could be shuffle board at the Royal
                        Palms in Brooklyn – Look for the date!

If you are a Peggy Browning Alumnus and are interested in participating in a PBF Alumni Association chapter in your area, contact Program Specialist Julia Watkins at jwatkins@peggybrowningfund.org.
