Labor and Employee Benefits Attorney

Sugarman Susskind Braswell & Herrera, P.A.
Florida

Sugarman Susskind Braswell & Herrera is dedicated to protecting working people, their wages, their pensions, and their benefits. Since 1985, our firm has represented labor unions, employee benefit plans, and workers with a focus on ensuring that the promises made to working people are kept. From our office in Miami, we serve clients throughout Florida and the Southeast.

We work with complex laws governing employee benefits, wages, and collectively bargained labor agreements. Our practice includes representing unions in benefit, wage, and labor disputes, advising multiemployer, single-employer, and municipal plans, and guiding plan fiduciaries in understanding and complying with their plan obligations.

What We’re Looking For
We are seeking an attorney with experience or demonstrated interest in labor law and/or employee benefits. Prior experience representing unions, benefit plans, or workers is preferred, but candidates with relevant clinic, clerkship, or internship experience will also be considered. Strong writing, research, communication, and advocacy skills are essential, along with a commitment to supporting working people and the organizations that represent them. You can expect to be dealing directly with clients almost immediately.

The ideal candidate is already admitted to the Florida Bar. Candidates not currently admitted must be eligible for admission and become licensed in Florida within one (1) year of hire.

This position requires residency in Florida, and candidates should be willing to relocate to the Miami area if not already based in the state. Our legal practice is conducted in-office. There are no remote legal positions.

What You’ll Do
• Conduct legal research and write memoranda, briefs, letters, and other advocacy documents

• Handle labor arbitration matters from investigation and case development through hearings and post-hearing briefs

• Negotiate and assist in the negotiation of collective bargaining agreements, including drafting proposals and analyzing contract language

• Represent clients in proceedings before the DOL, DOJ, EEOC and NLRB

• Advise plan sponsors, trustees, and administrators on ERISA and employee benefits compliance and fiduciary duties

• Litigate cases in federal and state courts, PERC and the NLRB including drafting pleadings and motions, participating in discovery, and appearing in hearings

What We Offer
• Competitive salary
• Generous health and other benefits
• A collegial work environment centrally located in beautiful Coral Gables
• THE CHANCE TO DO MEANINGFUL WORK ON BEHALF OF WORKING PEOPLE

We value diversity and encourage applicants from all backgrounds to apply.
