Senior Labor Attorney

Gorlick Kravitz & Listhaus, P.C.
New York

Passionate about the labor movement and the resurgence of labor unions? Gorlick Kravitz & Listhaus, P.C. (“GKL”) is a union-side labor and ERISA law firm with a 30-year history of commitment to union values and the power of organized labor. In various capacities, we represent some of the largest construction unions in the region.

We provide our union clients with day-to-day guidance, represent them in grievances, NLRB petitions and jurisdictional disputes, attend executive board meetings, and are heavily involved in the collective bargaining process. We have also run union elections, acted as counsel to union trustees, and have successfully transitioned locals out of trusteeship, transforming them into some of the most dynamic and highly respected labor organizations within their industries.

Traditionally, some of the most important achievements of organized labor are related to obtaining and protecting the health and retirement benefits of its hard-working membership. As such, the best private sector labor lawyers today are also highly proficient in the areas of ERISA and employee benefits. At times, this expertise is required in a Trustees boardroom and at times it is needed in the court room. GKL is highly regarded in both of these venues, acting as Fund counsel and/or litigation counsel on behalf of numerous Taft-Hartley benefit funds for over thirty years.

Specifically, we represent multi-employer welfare plans, defined benefit and defined contribution retirement plans and training funds and their apprenticeship committees with respect to the design and administration of their programs. In these capacities, we review applicable law and industry developments; draft and amend plan documents; attend trustee meetings; liaise with fund administrators, staff and professionals; manage RFP processes and cyber-breach responses; and review benefit applications, vendor contracts, participant communications, and domestic relations orders. We also have a significant presence in the federal courts where we litigate delinquency, withdrawal liability and complex ERISA claims.

We are seeking a talented individual with 5+ years’ real-world experience as a labor lawyer AND substantive experience either as a federal litigator or as a practicing ERISA attorney. The right candidate must have strong research and writing skills; excellent communication and negotiation skills, mindfulness and dedication to servicing our client’s needs.

If you are interested in joining our hard working and collegial team, please send us a resume and writing sample for consideration.

Job Type: Full-time in-office (Financial District in New York City).

Compensation: $150,000.00 - $170,000.00 per year plus benefits

At GKL, we believe in providing the best advice and care to our clients while recognizing and respecting the equilibrium between professional and personal life that is necessary for you to thrive as an attorney and a teammate. Our billable hour expectations are fair, flexible, and manageable, with year-end bonuses offered based on merit and quality of your work. We also have Summer Fridays and early office closures on other holiday weekends throughout the year, as an additional benefit to attorneys and staff on our team.
